Default antenna woes

my antenna on my 91 c4 comes up about 2 inches and then stops. It's annoying and doesn't look right. If I had it my way there wouldn't be an antenna. I think the mast might be broken. I've looked at a thread that details the install and looks like a PITA. I'm not interested in fixing this as I don't listen to the radio, just CDs. will unplugging the antenna cable from the cd player stop the antenna from coming up? I just want the antenna to stay down, but it keeps popping up even when the deck is in CD mode.

There is a connection under the rear hatch trim that you can unplug and it kills the power to the antenna. Standing at the rear of the car with the hatch open, it's under the trim piece just to the left of the latch.

Then the antenna will not go up and down, but it will still pick up strong stations just fine.

Cool, glad to help. As another poster mentioned, the installation of a new mast is very easy to do as well.
