Default Urethane Differential Carrier Bushings

I have a Prothane urethane bushing kit (whole car) and want to know if the differential carrier bushings are meant to be assembled with one washer between each for the four areas where the bushing would rest against the frame mount. My kit was pretty much all mixed up when I got it (all the parts came out of their packaging inside the box) and I couldn't tell what parts went with what. For a while now I assumed those four washers went with the differential carrier bushings, but when I got to the spring cushions they were a perfect fit so that's what I used them for. I've not tightend the diff carrier bolts yet because it looks like there's still room for those washers. What to do?

Hard to say mate, i wouldnt think much at all for the street, the rubber ones were pretty stiff as it was, but the polys were almost solid. I put them in when i went from a DANA 36 up to a DANA 44 so i was taking more notice to the other things that go with that!!

Casethecorvetteman:

Did you just change the diff bushings or did you do the whole rear?

I'm changing the subject, but when I was in Sydney, AU last year I only saw one Corvette the entire time (4 months). Are parts hard to find there? I remember going into a parts store there and having the attendants look at me wierd every time I asked for something. They don't seem to break a car down into parts the same way we do in the states. And they were very surprised I was doing my own repairs, every single time I bought something.

Here is a couple pics for ya mate, i went from a DANA 36 diff up to a DANA 44 diff, so yep, not only swaped the whole rear end, the C-beam, the driveshaft, and the ratio, but the bushings as well. I allready had poly bushings in everything else.

I have no trouble at all getting parts myself, but i dont buy them locally either anymore. I buy them from a mate in Colorado that has a big shop there

Im not sure what sort of car or what sort of parts you were after or where you went looking, so hard to say, but we do have wrecking yards here that buy smashed cars for parts, and part them out completely, again it comes down to what youre after and who you know or where you go.

Its quite rare i see another Corvette on the roads here too, however the people around my local area see mine on the road everyday I use it as a daily driver, where as most people over here wouldnt even consider this for some stupid reason....

I see the diff carrier bushings in the package, and I can see they don't have any washers. Of course they are a different brand too. Did you use the beam plates when you put the c-beam back on or did you use the original grade 10.9 nuts?

I put a 3.73 gear in while my diff (Dana 44 because it was a ZF-6 trans) was out. Haven't driven it yet pending the button ups I'm speaking of in this thread as well as some issues with the entirely new headers and exhaust.

I read in your profile yours is a '94, so is mine. In one of the pics you posted it shows a hand written number "433", do you know what that is. Mine is hand written "376" as you can see in the photo.

Mate that is very interesting, id never taken any notice to that before, glad you mensioned it. My 94 is number 489 out the door of the factory (the last 5 digits of the VIN will tell you that), so its probably not got anything to do with that, we should post the pics in a new thread and see what people know!!

Send me a PM with the link if you make a thread about it and ill post up my pic too

Same here no washers but I did have to remove a thin sleeve from the old carrier in order to install the new bushings!

Casey: Looks like you have been busy! My 89 has its original U joints. Are the drive shafts difficult to remove from the car? I have replaced conventional U joints many times. Just curious!

Yeah mate they have to come out, they were a very snug fit, but the 20 ton hydraulic press got them out nice and easy.

Gday Sam Lam, how are ya mate? The shafts are **** easy to remove if the car is up high enough:

The half shaft uni joints are pretty easy to do, the main drive shaft uni joints were abit of stuffing around though. Easy enough to put the new ones in, but removing the old ones seemed to hold us up abit.

That work was all done ages ago on my car though mate.
