Oil change
I always had some place change my oil, but I am always mad at the way that they treat my car. So if you want it done right do it yourself.
I have never changed my own oil.
All I have to do is drain the old oil, change the filer, and put oil back in, right?
How much oil do I put back in?
What kind of oil filter to use?
Anything else I need to know?
I really feel lame for not knowing all this, i'm really not that dumb

You pretty much have it all. Make sure you put 1/2 quart or little less in the new filter before you install it. The stock capacity in the LT1 is 4.5 quarts. Use Mobil 1 5w30 as recommended in the owners manual and I use (and would recommend) the AC Delco PF52 filter.
The oil drain is a 14mm bolt and you may want to pick up one of the filter wrenches that fit on the end of the filter and use a socket wrench. This is only for when you remove the old filter, install the new filter with just your hands. Maybe tighten 1/2 turn past hand tight for good measure.

Here is a link to a study done on oil filters by a layman:

[Note: this is actuall a mirror of the orginal minimopar sight which I can't find.]
Engine should be warmed up before change. While it cools a little you can hit the grease joints. Lift and support the car properly, and to allow the oil to fully drain. Might as well use a good filter, only costs a couple of bucks more. Use a rag to clean the mating surface for the oil filter, and make sure the old gasket did not stick to the engine. Use a light wipe (with you finger) of new oil on the new gasket. Hand tighten new filter about 1/4 to 3/4 turn after gasket contact - sort of a feel for this. Reinstall drain plug, lower car and install oil - but not quite all. Let it settle for 5 or 10 minutes, then check level. Fill to normal with what oil you have left. Reset oil light if you have one.
Ideas for free time during process: Lube hood latches, door latches, use silicone dielectric grease on all weatherstriping, clean out gas tank door drain, extend antenna and clean (wd-40) and lube (thin mineral oil), check torque on wheel lugs, top up fluids (PS, AF, cleaner, etc.)
Have fun.

hope this helps,

Brands that meet 4718M are Mobil 1, Amsoil, Valvoline, Castrol Syntec, and I'm sure many others. I use all of the above except Syntec just because. Look for GM 4718M on the bottle.
Walmart has sales once in a while on 4 quart jugs of Mobil 1 for less then $20.00 and usually a Mobil 1 filter for under $8.00.
Good Luck,
Pete

Its a good question...I change mine and get great satisfaction in knowing thats its been done correctly and that no one else messes up anything else on my vette...including grease marks all over he77...I use Mobil 1, 5w30 and AC PF52 filter... :seeya... and also the Chevrolet dealership charges at least $70 to do it and wastes my half day...and I do it for around $21...in about 30 min... :D
