Default what am I missing?

Ive got an 85 model, and the aux. cooling fan comes on as soon as I turn on the ign. switch. I replaced the fan sensor in the pass. head, but it didnt cure the problem. Today, I finally decided to troubleshoot some more, and using a schematic I found here, I decided the first place I should look is the relay. One problem- I cant find it!!!!
I traced the wire( black with a red stripe) from the aux. fan, all the way to the firewall and there was no splices, crimps, or relay. I thought the relay was in the nose section- guess I was wrong.
So what I would like to know is what is going on here, and what am I doing wrong? it doesnt appear that the wiring has been tampered with, so Im totally at a loss. Any help would be appreciated......

Hopefully, the Aux switch is in the passenger side head on your Year - on others it's over on the Driver's side. Otherwise, sounds like the Relay. However, don't remember the Aux fan as an '85 Option. Thought it came along in '86 and if that's the case, you'll have to trace the wiring to determine how someone put it in there (may have gone right to ignition power). Otherwise, stock location for the Relay is the left hand side of the Radiator Shroud.

The aux fan WAS an option in '85 and the aux fan switch IS on the right side on the '85 cars. The relay is activated when the "B" terminal of the relay (green/white wire) is grounded by the fan switch. Either the green/white wire has a short, the switch is stuck closed, or the relay is stuck closed.

I know where the sensor is.... I just cant find the relay- its not on the shroud- it looks like a factory wire (it was buried in the main loom), and it goes to the firewall connector- I cant imagine the relay being in the cockpit- aargh!!!

My only fan relay is on the rear of the left inner fender panel, just below the master cylinder. I would expect that to be the location of your main fan relay. Are there two relays there? When tracing wires, you do realize that the aux fan is on the front side of the radiator, right? I wish I could tell you for a fact where it is. I am 95% sure it is under the hood, not under the dash. Time to buy a FSM.

yeah, my main fan relay is in the same place. I wish I had the coin for a Helm, but right now I dont. Ive gotten the page scanned from a helm, and it shows a relay- everyone says theirs is on the fan shroud, but mine isnt. I was wondering if this was an 85 only setup or what- it really has me confused. I guess next step is tracing the wire into the car, and seeing where that leads me......

The easiest wire to trace should be the, other than black, (red/black?) wire from the fan motor. It should go directly to the relay. The black wire from the fan motor just goes to ground. The green/white wire from the fan switch also goes to the relay, but on my car, it has to go through several connectors.

If you aren't careful, even as expensive as the FSM is, you may end up paying for one by making mistakes and replacing good parts, without having it available for reference. The longer you wait, the more it is likely to cost.
