Well, my trouble riddled 94 coupe is at it again. This just started recently. I changed my oil about 2 weekends ago and about 3 days after I changed it, my oil pressure gauge started messing up. I work about 30 minutes (27 miles) away from my house. The gauge read fine for the first half of the trip. Then, out of no where, it jumps up to 80psi. Then, whenever I would stop and then take off again, it would go PAST 80psi. Then, my car would sit for the work day. I would come back out and start it up and it would be fine. Then halfway through the trip home it would mess up again. Then, this morning, after my car has been sitting since 5pm yesterday, I went outside to start it up to check on another problem I have. When I started it up, it IMMEDIATELY went past 80psi. I dont know what the problem could be. I know I put only 5 quarts of oil in. I know I changed the filter correctly and put everything back where it goes. This is a job I have dont a hundred times on quite a few different vehicles. I dont know if I have a faulty gauge or if maybe I got the wrong filter or what. Anyone have any ideas??
The oil pressure sending unit likely went south.
The amount of oil in the crank-case won't make the pressure high - only low if drastically under filled.
The sending unit is at the back of the intake plenum near the center of the engine up high. Pain to see and a really tight spot to work on.
There are actually two sending units. I don't know which feeds the gauge for your year but someone will chime in.
Actually, not a big deal.
Hope this brings you some comfort.
Thank you very much. Yes, lol, it does bring me comfort. I didnt know if I was breaking my car more than it already is. I appreciate your response and thank you again.
