Default Air cleaner choice for carb...

I know a few people here are running carbs.. what type of air cleaner are you running? I'm running an regular performer manifold and a holley 650 dual feed carb.. anyone know of a drop base air cleaner that will clean the metering blocks?

I've got a Barry Grant 650 and a Summit 1-1/4" drop base air cleaner with a 2" filter. Base and lid was real cheap. Check out Summit.

do you know if that carb is the same dimensions as the holley? I have an edlebrock 650 with vaccum secondairys that my 12 inch drop base fits over but the same air cleaner won't fit over my holley

I'm running a 2 inch air filter element, but I have a Weiand Stealth manifold which is taller than yours. You could probably get away with a 2 1/2 inch element with a 1 1/4 drop base. I believe the Summit base will fit your carb. The BG is a glorified Holley and it fits my carb like a glove. It has a large dimple on each side of the dropped part which on my carb dodges the float adjustments. It's not too expensive and it oughta work. Call Summit and ask. They usually have excellent customer service on stuff like this.

any idea how much higher than the dist cap your air cleaner sits with the filter and all? I found a 1 1/4th drop base that will fit and with a approx 3inch high element it looks as if its about 3 inches higher than the dist cap.. wondering how high the hood sits as I don't have the hood on the car yet.. should that be able to clear?

3 inches is pushing it for the air cleaner. It depends on the diameter too, cause the first place it'll hit is towards the front. Can't hurt to try it, and if it does hit you can go to any parts place for a shorter element.
