Default MAF system for 1995

i have the stock MAF which as I understand it for my year, is the AC/Delco MAF. I have seen several alternatives to this MAF such as this replacement air flow 'housing' http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=3.135.677.

Also seen this Granatelli unit for my year. http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...dept%5Fid=1772

anyone know if any of these are worth the cost for added performance?

Stay with the stock MAF, the GMS POS may give you more problems than you bargained for. I just dyno tuned a customers LS1 based truck using one of the POS sensors and because we didn't and he didn't have the stock sensor to reinstall I had to remap the PCM MAF tables just to make the POS work in the car. His fuel trims were skewed so far south that the PCM set a lean code, it had to correct +25% just to get the fueling correct.

If your engine is basically stock there is no sense in doing anything to the sensor, and that includes DESCREENING, even that can cause problems because the screens are not filters or are they a debris screen. They are in fact air flow straightening vanes to give the incoming air flow a more laminar flow so that the meter can measure the flow more accurately.

OK, you are making a claim of the great HP gains from the GMS MAF. Where is the proof of the performance gains? I don't remember seeing a documented horsepower gain from that MAF. Maybe you know something the rest of the Forum would like to know.

BTW, my car is ~375 rwhp and still running the stock MAF.

I never said anything about a hp gain, or a claim of it I said you would feel a big difference in acceleration Also I never said anything about a documented hp from the MAF. RAGOVET was asking for opinions and I answered the best of my knowledge

You did answer the question to the best of your knowledge, and I appoligize for questioning your opinion. I always associate "a big difference in accelleration" with a horsepower gain.

Best of luck with you mods.

Default Gms Maf

I installed a Granatelli Motorsports MAF in my 85 yesterday. The car would/will not idle. I worked on the adjustment screw both directions. I can get it running right for a very short period, then it starts stuttering and popping and sets codes 33 and 34. Re-install the original 1985 MAF and it runs great.
Maybe I need a wide band O2 system to set it, but so far it is not working.

Unless your motor needs more air than a stock MAF can flow you dont need anything else. Remember, all 8 cylinders dont fire at the same time, the demand for air isnt what most think it would be.
