85 timing
Can you guys please tell me what is the appropriate degree for timing on an 85. Last year I had a head gasket go and since I've gotten it back it idles pretty high...and the current timing is set is higher than 12. I don't think it is normal because my worked over '77 is set at 10. The '85 is stock. Last year PeteK noticed the odd rpms too but didn't have a timing light

Yep, disconnect the EST and set the base timing at 6* BTDC. Double check after tightening the hold down bolt on the dist. Turn the engine off and disconnect the battery. Reconnect the EST and then the battery. The timing should be around 22-24* or the HB mark at 12 o'clock, afterwards.
