Sometimes when I put it in first gear it feels like it engaged but didn't.
Doesn't do it all the time.I don't know if it's my Trans. or the Shifter?
The shifter does have a little more play on the 1st to 2nd side than the 3rd to 4th.

Anyone experience this.?
I have heard of the shift lever getting weak and breaking. We are in the middle of a rebuild and we are replacing them with a stronger unit that Liberty gears is getting us.
That might be my problem. I didn't know the levers could get weak??
I have the aftermarket "Short Throw" Levers.
It's actually the piece inside the side cover that gets weak. I have the shorter links that make the throws shorter. Once I get the new piece I will try to get some pics for you. A guy we race with tells me that this piece is the weak link. With the upgraded piece I am told that the 4+3 is as strong as the ZF 6 but not nearly as complicated. If you lose a shift lever you can lose 1st and 2nd gear or 3rd and 4th gear. I have heard of it happening but I am trying to avoid that with this rebuild we are doing.
I am going off of good sources who have told me these things. Lots of corvette challenge experience. I am not saying a 100% thats what it is but I will get pics of the parts to let you see first hand the diffrences. Once I drive the car after it's replaced I will be able to tell you the diffrence first hand. We'll get'er fixed up for ya!

When this happens does it feel like it's positively going into gear, or does it feel different?
A very sloppy shifter can allow the shifter to go in between the shift gates. You'd need to remove it and press it back together or shim it to take out the slop.
Or when this happens does the shifter not move side to side like it should in neutral? Such as towards reverse or 3 & 4? This would be caused by a loose shift rod or link, but would not be an intermittent problem.
If you find you need to replace it I have one for sale. I think the little plastic/rubber bushings in it are shot though so you'd have to try and reuse yours or buy new ones.
