Well, this is a question that lots have asked and there are varying opinions. Most I think will say that there is not much in the way of "cheap" performance improvements that will add real 'rear wheel HP'. That said , you can see that I have added a catback exhaust, increased rear gear ratio, and several air intake changes. Honestly, I am not sure whether I have any significant gain in HP performance. Also since I did not do the work my self, except for air intake, the costs were high for the rear gears and the exhaust install.
I do think for relatively inexpensive costs, adding a KN air filter would help some. Opening the air filter cover with this, also can be done at low cost.
The intake foil that can be added to the TBI is cheap but I dont think it really provides much increase in performance.
I like the catback, I think the aftermarket exhaust is worth the expense to performance ratio. Others can recommend more robust engine mods , and associated costs. Good luck.
This is a short list of things that don't work... and could waste your hard earned money!
Performance Mods that Do Work
From FAQ sticky at the top of this section. Basically the cheapest mod you can get that will provide a noticable difference is about $300 if you do it yourself.
