Default ECM auto/manual the same?

Is the ECM for a manual trans vette the same as an automatic car?

The ECM's are the same, the chip is different.

Is there anyway I can find out which one I have? If i scan it is there a value for torque converter lockup that will only be present in an auto setup?

I agree with AGENT86. The chips have broadcast codes on them. ex. ABBT

There are different combinations of numbers

Not really, the bit is used for the shift light if it's a manual bin.

What's your situation? Cant read the prom?

Is there a label on the memcal showing the broadcast code?

If not, you can scan it and get the Prom ID.

The Prom ID can be referenced back to a broadcast code to determine what you have.

If the programming has been modified on the memcal. All bets are off.

Is there something that makes you think you have a mismatch? Strange tcc behavior, etc.?

The ECM is in a fuel injection swap not in the original car thats why I wondered. the torque converter doesnt seem to lock up.

OK guys i pulled my PROM it has a sticker that says Delco AKFS 2194. Can this identify if it is from an auto or manual car? Is there anyway to read the PROM through the OBDI port?

Well your load tables will be all off, heck even the spark ramping on a 305 is different than a 350. And probably a lot different from your 350.. Yeah you should tune it.

'88 is $32B which is with cold start. I'd run a prom from a '89 car with vats disabled ($6E). You get the faster 8192 baud datalogging, crank pulse starting (faster starts), and some better code to work with. You should check out thirdgen.org for info on tuning, or find someone local to tune it for you.

Isnt an 89 vette a MAP sensor vehicle? Would it matter because I am running a Mass Air Flow setup.

'89 should be MAF, $6E.. At least, the firebird is in that year. Who cares about the vette stuff, you don't need any of the additional functionality.

In fact, I know '89 was MAF in vette too cuz thats where the ARAP bin comes from, which is a vette MAF bin with a ton of spark advance to make the magazines at the time say "wheeeeeeeeeeeee"..

You need to get a memcal adapter (G1 from moates.net), and either a burner or an emulator, and start doing some tuning.

Most likely will have to get it flashed ( re-programmed ) with a manual tune ;
not because of engine operational problems but because the '95 PCM controlled the shifting of the 4L60E auto trans
( '92 ECM only controlled the convertor lockup in the non electronic 4L60) so the PCM will be looking
for feedback inputs from the trans which is not there.

IIRC; the only connection from the PCM to the ZF6 ( other than the VSS for speed indication) is
the CAGS 1 -4 lockout which most guys bypass anyway

Thanks for your help I appreciate the info, I also have heard of the first to fourth bypass. A gm dealership should be able to flash the ecm for me right? I shouldnt have to buy a new one correct

The 94/95 PCM is the same for all LT1's ; Vettes , F-Bodies . B-Bodies , etc.
Only the tune in the computer determines what it is programmed for
