EGR does two things... lowers NOx, and as a byproduct, lowers combustion temps improved resistance to detonation.

Personally, I am a fan of EGR, but removing it won't hurt. You will just need to get it programmed out of the chip.

If you get a cam with more overlap it will basicly have the same effect as the EGR. It must be removed from the computer by reprogramming or it will throw a code.

On my 87 (diff engines...same principle), I got rid of all my smog crap. Long tubes and no cats. I just hooked everything back up as if it were still on.....fabbed up a plate to block the EGR tube from the ex manifold to the in manifold, and I get no codes. The vacuum selonoid gates open and close like they should...except there is no vaccuum lines to them. They are just there, fooling the computer. I am having a new memcal programmed as we speak & will elimate that stuff.

on the L98 I bought a plate and just took the EGR off. I was curious what you guys do with the lower section of the EGR that comes off the manifold? I have heard cutting it off but then how do you plug it? Use some Jb Weld?

On the L98 I was told it would not throw a code and I also took the air pipe out and AC out. Now I am trying to figure out the mess of coolant lines

Do you guys perhaps have pictures of your new hose/routing setup. I believe that was done to mine, and would be curious as to how it looks deleted. Thanks.

The tube on the passenger side is capped on mine till I get my headers on. There are three block off plates on mine, the tube, the intake in back, and the intake at the EGR valve itself.
