Default Shifting troubles

Having some shifting troubles in my 87 manual trans (Doug Nash). Every so often when i get into reverse the gear will grind as if i wasn't holding the clutch in far enough. I pump the clutch but it still happens. Also when shifting gears it sometimes takes a bit more pressure on the stick to get into the next gear.

Any ideas?

Also, where are the fluids checked from? I cant find the dipstick/reservoirs for the trans.

Thanks a lot.

The first two things that come to mind are either low hydraulic fluid or worn synchro rings.

You won't find a dipstick for the 4 speed unit or the overdrive unit - they each have a fill plug on the side of the casing that you would need to take out to check fluid levels.

The clutch master cylinder is located right next to the brake booster, so check hydraulic fluid first.

You have a clutch release issue. Synchro rings don't exist on the reverse gear for these transmissions.

If you press your pedal down and count to 10 secs, stick it in reverse and you still get a grind.... its a clutch release issue.

The drag of the OD unit alone behind the 4 speed will usually slow it down within 3 secs anyway....

think about it..
