I found a set of these Hankook 275/40/17 Ventus H405 on chrome rims for a 1200.00 i think its a real good deal. I read some reviews on the tires and they were rated good but none of the buyer feed back was from corvette owners, (mostly compact cars and a couple mustang guys) I was wondering if anybody had these tires and what they thought of them
My only concern with chrome, is that if you drive it enough, the chrome WILL flake off the aluminium. You see, chrome is harder than aluminium. The aluminium will flex more than the chrome, and over miles, the chrome just won't be able to stay on.
I have had them on my 88 coupe for about a year now. They are not too good in the rain so I park it when it's wet. I have driven about 6,000 miles and other than the rain I have not had any problems. I only cruise around town though, no heavy use. So for the money and my purposes I have been satisfied.
The price is for new rims and tires. Thanks 88 my vette is not a daily driver either and rarely drive it in rain but my stock tires are terrible in the rain to so i am not to worried. For the price i cant really pass it up.
Thanks for the help
Just a word of advise... I was the Hankook representative (TEXAS) for this tire line... All I can say is "If I know the car in front of me has Hankook tires on it, I will either change lanes or slow down"... I recently purchased a new vehicle and it had Hankook tires on it... I made them change the tires before I took delivery of it...

Well, it's a real cheap deal, that's for sure.
Seriously, tires are so important to the performance and safety of a vehicle, especially a high-performance vehicle like a Corvette, that I don't think I would go with a no-name brand tire.
Kumhos are about as low as I would go on the tire spectrum...and I don't think I'd even go that low. I have Kumhos now and have decided that tires are not where I want to save a few dollars.
These are the tires i decided on.
ZR Nexen 3000. UTOG rating Treadwear 360 one of the highest rating / Traction AA highest rating / Temperature A highest rating / Speed rating 186 mph highest rating. Nexen is comparable to a Michelin Pilot or Bridgestone Potenza S-03. The Nexen 3000 has one of the best rating on the market today and is part of the Dunlop Tire Corporation. The Nexen 3000 has innovated tread design to improve handing in wet or dry conditions. L.L. Carbon to improve treadwear while enhancing wet performance. Silica allows performance even in cold weather. Nylon spiral wrap allows the tire to keep its original shape at extreme high speeds.
I have had dunlops on a lexus that driven very hard and the tires held up very good. They always stuck to the road and never really wore down much at all. So I think i made the right choice for the money

I peeped a set of Nexen's on ebay lately. They looked very impressive.
I have a set of Ventus' on my '95 right now. Not bad, but they are cheap. Also, when I first start driving in the morning they have bad flatspots that vibrate the whole car until they've warmed up sufficiently. Aside from that, the traction is not that good and my rears are pretty worn (all joking aside I do NOT drive very aggressively but these tires have a hard time putting down part-throttle off of a dead stop...no kidding)
I will be replacing them soon and NOT with more Ventus'...I have Fuzion ZRi's (made by Bridgestone) on my wife's Passat as well as a buddy's Porsche 911 and they have been great for the money! May go that route...
I have Hankook Ventus SPORT 275/40/ZR17s on my 94, $324 AUD a tire (which is good price here) and they SH*T ALL OVER the Sumitomo HTR 40Zs that so many people on here seem like.

Hankook is the parent company to Kumho. They are a Korean company.
There have been many documented instances of Kumho tires coming apart in race conditions, none to my knowledge resulted in the driver losing control of the car. I have no information on Hankook tires for the street.

The Kumho website has a history of the company. While it notes ties to UNIROYAL in the late sixties, there is no mention of being acquired by Hankook or any other company.
Neither does the Hankook site mention any affiliation with Kumho.
I put Nexen N3000 on my 04 maxima 245/45/18 and they have performed great. I have about 10,000 miles on them with no sign of wear. I would put them on my 95 but they don't make them in 285 & 255 17.

Sorry for the Hi-Jack guys, but...Case, have you driven a car with the Sumitomos on it? Just wondering.
