I have a stock '87 LT-1 with 147k mis. on it that runs GREAT. If i haven't run it in a day or two, it can be started EASILY by reaching in the window and blipping the key. However, if it has been run AT ALL that day, I gotta hold the gas to the floor to get it to start and then grey smoke pours out of the mufflers for a couple of seconds. I then have to keep it running with the gas for a minute until it "catches up with itself". No codes are present, and I have recently replaced the MAF and TPS with no change (different problems).
HELP!
You might also check the coolant sensor, I have seen them fail. What they do is send a signal to the ECM that the engine is always cold, this makes the ECM send fuel for a cold engine on a hot start. It makes them too rich to run.
Leaky fuel injectors usually make it hard and long crank to start. When warm and it won't start easily, unplug the start injector and try a start. If it starts ok, then you have a defective coolant sensor (front of engine).

Leaky fuel injector...but I really like to know did the LT-1 come in the '87 or the L-98...just asking.... :smash:
thanks alot!
i don't know where the start injector is, but i will try and find out, cause that is what i was thinking- choking when hot.
i don't mean to sound ignorant, but a guy who's supposed to be an expert told me i have an LT-1. i guess it hasn't mattered much to me, because i don't have any money to make it faster.
I am no expert but I think the LT-1, LT-4 are in the 92-96....and the LT-4 are 6 speed.. LT-5 is the zr-1... just a guess... I am a newbie....
im with everyone else, sounds like you have leaky injectors or injectors that are breaking down and the resistance inside them is getting low when they are hot.
