With the ASM runners out of production and the Super Ram not being available (periodically on ebay)the SLP & TPIS runners seem to be the only alternative for a new runner system - anyone have any experience with them (SLP or TPIS)?? Plan on using them with a ported plenum, Accel base. 1990 Corvette, stock heads, cam
I bought a pair of the SLP runners because I liked the look of them and thought they may work. I gained (possibly) .10 of a sec and 1 mph in the 1/4 mile. In fairness, the gain may have been a result of slightly better weather. Regardless, minimal gain at best.
Like said above...out of the box, the SLP's are just "OK"...but usually $100 or more cheaper. If you have to pay someone to port them, then the savings is gone. Basically you wind up near where you would have been had you just laid out the extra cash for one of the others right from the start.
I run SLP's, but I had the time and tools to extensively port and siamese them before hand so that they'd be a good match to my ported plenum and Edelbrock base.
It is major work to port a set of SLP runners. Definitely not for the faint of heart. It is also a major payoff when finished though. With a fully ported set of 113 heads, ground on edelbrock intake, and SLP runners that are shortened and enlarged by being siamezed about 5 inches internally, my 4500 RPM TPI is now a 5500 RPM TPI. Just when it used to turn off....now it turns on.
The downside is...I have umpteen million hours into this combo slaving away with the die grinder......

i agree the slp's are excellent when ported. i cut mine wide open and siamezed them to almost 2.5 inches from the bottom and then patched welded them up.
