Howdy Crew;
I'm sure this has been covered somewhere, but I can't find a thread. I have a 93 vert with saw blades. The clear coat is looking sad and pitted. Any leads on how to refinish them? Is it worth the effort?
you can sand them prime them base them clear them...all correctly, then they will scratch like regular clear coat. any more questions, or if you would like to mail them and have me do them for you send me a PM anytime!
I just stripped my sawblades last week, I didn't have any deep scratches or pitting so I didn't have to deal with that. I used por-15 POR-STRIP paint remover to take the old clear coat off, worked well.. just spray it on and let it set, (I suggest safety glasses and rubber gloves) rinse it off with hose- wipe and re-apply, then clean off residue with fine steel wool and water. Then I polished with some Mother's aluminum cleaner got a great shine on them. I haven't put clear coat back on yet, I will use Glisten POR-15 PC topcoat, it's a two part clear with a hardener made for wheels and such.I got the supplies @ www.scoutparts.com cost $53.93 including shipping. The wheels look like new would do it again in a minute.

Duplicolor makes an excellent clear specifically for wheels. I used it on some factory ZO6 wheels after sanding and repainting some scuffs on them. Along with their correct paint for those wheels, you couldn't even see the repaired areas when I was done. I've used that clear for some other things too and it's been very durable.
