With the engine running in my 92 LT1, the remote control for the garage door will not operate. As soon as the engine is stopped, the door opener works fine. What is the fix? Thanks for your help....i am new to the site...it's GREAT! :yesnod:
Re: Engine interference with garage door opener!!! (doc18015)
Living fairly close to a military airfield, I've heard of some low flying F18's opening up garage doors, but nothing about a motor blocking the signal. If you're opener has dip switches, try another setting. Engines do create electrical noise; so I'm guessing that your alternator or ignition is cancelling the frequency of yours.
Re: Engine interference with garage door opener!!! (doc18015)
The pulses from the spark plug wires causes interference to the garage door opener receiver. You might call the opener manufacturer. They might have a cure.

:yesnod: :yesnod: Lots of things cause interference around our houses... you should see what happens when someone uses a blow drier in our place ... (we've got 7 computers) ...

The electrical noise from the spark plugs, injectors, alternator or even the keyless entry could make some stuff go crazy. Someone recently had an article talking about how the lower level spectrum for radio freqs are getting crowded because of all the fancy gadgets that we have. Good luck in finding the cause and welcome to the forum.

Do you have the OEM type ignition wires or did you change them to an aftermarket brand such as Taylor? If so, you may want to try using the OEM type wires. At a dyno session, one of the cars with aftermarket wires created problems for the dyno system.

I agree with the idea that the electrical noise from the engine is causing the problem. Try setting in front of the garage door in the car and change the rpm of the engine while trying the opener to see if that has an effect. If it does try changing the dip switch settings as mentioned before.
Good Luck!

My old 88 IROC had an interference issue... When the car was running, none of my co-workers parked on either side of me could disarm their alarm systems...
I think it was something to do with the alternator/electrical system...

My '92 Corvette does not interfere with my garage door opener, but my lawn tractor does.
I have to get away from, or turn off, the lawn tractor before raising the garage door.
