Default C4 Battery charge = security alert

Hi there!

This is about a C4 -92, LT1 with automatic transmission - to make things clear.

I took off the battery yesterday and charged it, when I had mounted it back on the car and was trying to put the minus to the battery (plus already connected, of course) the car starts flashing Security and the horn pulses REALLY loud.. Does anyone know if I can close both doors, and try to lock-unlock the driver's door while this is going on? I heard that this could reset the security system.

I also have trouble starting the car sometimes. I have automatic transmission.. And it seems that P-mode doesn't really get fitted, because when I change gears a couple of times (can take up to 2 minutes) then the car starts.. Is it just bad fitting, or can I do something? It has been pretty cold night too (~0 degree celsius).. when this happends. Not funny at all at the gas station!

Thanks alot!

The reset procedure you described should work for the factory alarm. But simply disconnecting and re-connecting the battery should not cause the factory alarm to go off. Try the procedure and see if that solves the problem. Does the car have an after-market alarm?? Some alarms are capable of detecting a voltage change like removing and re-connecting a battery cable.

As far as not starting with the shift lever in the Park position, it may be a mis-adjusted or faulty Neutral Safety Switch which is located on the right side of the shifter under the console plate. The car should also start if the selector is in Neutral. Does that work?

I have an after market alarm on my Miata (91) which I have turned off. Still when ever I install the battery the alarm sounds. All I need to do is start the car and the alarm stops.

Default Problem solved!

Hello there!

I looked at the problem yesterday, it worked perfectly. I just inserted the key in the drivers door and turned it side to side, excellent..

I also noticed that I had locked the dimmer as the interior light had been on all night - which resulted in the battery power loss at first place.

As with the starting problems, I didn't notice them yesterday.. and it has been a couple of weeks now without this problem.. I will test neutral mode next time this happends - if it does!

I don't know if it's an aftermarket alarm as I bought the car two weeks ago.

Overall I'm quite happy with this car this far.. I get a little high temp on idle only but that's probably only more coolant water needed - as the fans start properly. Does anyone know the ideal idle temp when engine is hot?

I also have some steering issues, but hopefully I only need "tire adjustments" (don't know the word) for that.

Thanks alot for your replies and this forum!
