Default Intake for 383 L98

(Before you guys crucify me, I did do a search and read Vader's site...)

I have a mild 383 that still has the factory TPI on it. I wanted to upgrade as I know that I'm probably leaving some HP on the table. The problems are:
a) I don't want to spend a butt-ton of money
b) I don't want to lose a ton of torque (A4)
c) I don't want vaccuum leaks, or added install/removal hassle

If I could get some real world experience with set ups (like SLP/Edelbrock runners & ported base, FIRST intake, SR & MR, etc...), it would really help my decision. I don't mind looking for used stuff to keep the price down.
Magazine articles don't always put things into perspective, so if anybody could spend a couple minutes and share their set-ups, numbers and reviews, I'd be greatly appreciative. Thanks!

I have a SR on top of mine. Still lots of torque but you pick up a load of torque going to a 383. Power is prettly healthy. The thing is a royal PITA to install.

Do you get vaccuum leaks? What set-up did you have previously? Thanks for the input!

There are tweaks that can be done to each intake, for ease in working on them. Also experience in working on them makes a big difference. What is the budget? If your not in hurry, keep an eye out for a good deal. You can save a bundle.

I'm in no huge hurry. Hell, I still have to get the combo I have now fine-tuned. However, I think 3.07s and a better intake are the next two things to do. As for budget, I'd be thrilled if I could get an intake/TB and gaskets for around $1K. The really sad part is that I'm looking for an intake for my LSx 383 at the same time, which will also cost $1K+...

I had the stock TPI before the 383 build. No vaccum leaks, the guy that assembled it used lots of formagasket type material on all of the mating surfaces.

Well, I got her dynoed today (I'll post a different thread) and the intake is really holding me back. The engine is basically done at 4500 rpm...

Engine is a mild 383 with Eagle crank and 10ish:1 dished Sealed Power hypereutectic pistons, cleaned up stock heads, 212/216 (I think...I'll have to dig through receipts) cam, and Hooker LTs.
She made 266rwhp/370rwtq on the dyno today, but fell off a cliff at 4500rpm. I was going to start another thread with the dyno graphs/pics, but can post here if it helps. Thanks! ben

Sounds kinda like a candidate for an LT1 Conversion to me...

I think the stock heads and mild cam are holding you back as well. If I were going to do the intake only for now, it seems the MR is a good way to go.

With that cam, I would either go with a fully worked over TPI setup, or throw the SR on it. Not a MR/LT1 on this car.

This is what I was thinking...ported/aftermarket base, aftermarket runners and hogged-out plenum. More info/pics/graph can be found here...

I'd probably go SR on your car with your cam selection. If it was my car I would put a bigger cam in it and then do a Mini. The bigger the motor the smaller every particular sized cam acts in comparison to putting that cam in a smaller motor. EX. So a 219 in a 383 would act like a 224 or something like that in a 350. Do you follow? The bigger the motor the more cam it can handle.

I do disagree with a TPI setup worked over or not, they are not sufficient for a 350.
