1990 Dash Shorting Out?

1990 Dash Shorting Out?
The analog oil temp guage on my '90 sometimes goes all the way to the highest reading, but Diacom shows the oil temp to be normal. Well, bust out the 'bubba' tool.... I bang on the dash just above the cluster and the oil guage goes back to normal. This happens to often to keep banging the dash, though. I don't want to break anything. Then last night, the digital readout area was all scrambled. Turn the key on, and the entire LCD area is flickering on and off in different spots. Once again, break out the 'bubba' tool..... bang on the dash and all is fine.
Should I pull the dash cluster and clean the electrical connections?

sounds like there is a bad connection somewhere. might wanna take it apart and see if any solder joints have become cracked and loose. or if any grounds arent making good contact.
