I noticed last night that when I am moving very slow, less than 10MPH, I can hear an odd sound coming from the front of the car, mostly the drivers side. The sound is a clanking, rattling, grinding kind of sound. It stops when brakes applied. Heading to a shop in a couple minutes. Any info here would be appreciated. thanks.
Could be your brake pads have lost one of the anti-rattle clips or could just be the pads dragging on the rotor a bit.
Hope its not more than that.
Good luck
The sound was gone this morning when I drove the car. Last night it seemed to go with the rotation of the wheel like a rock in the tread would. Nothing seems to be wrong with handling, braking or anything. Just had that noise.
My '96 would make a noise at times that I could only hear when very slowly moving. I found that it was the front wheel bearing by having someone else drive the car while I was walking next to it. This way I was able to determine which wheel it was.
After lifting the front wheels, I found that the right front wheel bearing had movement sideways that the left front did not. Taking it out and comparing to a new one really showed the problem.
Front wheel bearings are very easy to replace. The rears...not so easy due to the half shafts.
