What experiences have you all had with the Hypertech Programmer with the '96 LT1 Corvettes. I am thinking about getting one so I would like some feedback on this. thanks in advance.
Well you can correct your speedo with it. I don't think that the programmer is a miracle worker maybe a tenth an a half mph. Dunno never used it on a vett on firebird I have it increased throttle response not a noticeable increase in HP though.

Re: Hypertech Power Programmer III (TorchRedXCVI)
I'm not sure if there's a difference between the HPP+ and the HPP III...
I have the HPP+ and only use it for the fan temp control... The power programming doesn't seem to have any real effect on performance... Most of my F-Body friends noticed a slight DECREASE in performance on the dyno with the power programming installed...
It can be a valuable tool if you change rear ratio, tire size, shift points, and fan on/off temps... Other than that, I wouldn't waste my money on one...
Oh, one other item that makes it a good tool is the optional scan cartrige that you can buy for it... I use it to record engine paramaters such as timing adv, spark knock retard, TPS, RPM, O2s, etc at the track... It's also one of the few tools that you can use to pull/clear SES codes on your car...
I think its a worthwhile tool only if you need to do one of the following:
- change cooling fan on/off temps after a 160 stat swap;
- firm up auto trans shift points;
- recalibrate speedo after a rear gear change.
Its super easy to do these things with the HPP. 5 minutes and you won't even get your hands dirty. If that's all you need, its worth it.
But the "performance tuning" aspect of the HPP is suspect, IMHO, and can vary widely from car to car. If you car is bone stock, it may very well help. If you have done some mods, you will be much better off with a custom reprogram from someone like Ed Wright at Fastchips.
FYI, I have a HPP+ (for the 96 LT4 manual trans only!) for sale. Email me if interested.
Nothing to do with the HPP but I noticed your "GS Twins" logo. Was the GS option actually offered as a convertible as well as a coupe?
Most certainly was, sir. GM built 1,000 Grand Sports in 1996... 810 coupes and 190 convertibles. Ragtops with red guts like my wife's #707, here, are particularly rare... only 53 were made.
I have one. Didnt do squat for HP gains, but I adjusted the cooling fans, the shift points and shift firmness. It will now get it going into 2nd gear which is pretty cool.
Hey,
I have it, and used it to adjust for gear change, tire size and fan control.
AS for the performance portion of it, I dont know for sure but itfeels better to me. I also noticed an increase in gas milage, about 1mpg increase after the 4.11 gears were installed. I have left the performance portion of ythe program in for now and next dyno day will run with and without it to see if it adds or not...
