My '85 4+3 suddenly stopped idling properly. After trying everything I could think of in the MAF circuit (MAF, ECM, MAF BurnOff Module, Ohming every lead, etc) it boiled down to this:
Loose connector! :o
Apparently, the female end of the connector would slide into the connector instead of over the pins in the MAF. Recrimped and rescanned and it's all better.
So, I have a perfectly good ECM, MAF and BurnOff Module on my shelf. Not bad parts to have as spares!
I had no idea that the ports could move. I am a bit skeptical myself that this is the underlying cause officially, but this solution does address the symptoms...
I threw a code on a drive. 33 & 34. Felt a surge then no power, like limp mode. The 'head idiot light' came on and it was pointed at me.
I'll know more when I can drive it on a good, long trip. I'll be heading to Mankato this weekend, ~ 180 round trip.
William, was the burnoff module expensive? (like $100s). It looks to be a semi-pita to change in our cars if ya had to.........
I scored one for a couple honeys. Used from a working car that was parted. The new and discontinued models go for $700 or better. I did not replace the Module or ECM, yet, but that was next on the list if everything else checked out. So, I have cheap spare parts on the shelf.
