Default Need Info on DFI

I've done alot of searching and found very few answers. I'm trying to finish the build up of my 85 and I've decided to go with a DFI setup. I'm looking for info and vendors to purchase a DFI setup with a wide band O2. Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm running an Accel Gen VII DFI on my '85. What kind of info are you looking for?

Jeffvette, I am looking for new. tjwong is a name I keep seeing. I will be getting in touch with him.

danno85, How was the install? How complete is the setup (sensors, relays, ect) Was anything else needed to get up and running? Is there a specific Gen 7 kit for our setup or is it just a generic setup? What did you do about your gauges? I think I'm going to ditch the starwars dash and go this route http://batee.com/corvette/dcrg/replace.shtml

Thanks for the fast responses!

Let's see. There is not a specific kit for the Vette, it's universal from that standpoint, but there are different options depending on the ignition system you are planning on running. Mine is a universal V8 and I'm also running the Accel dual sync distributor, but you can get one for the HEI. If you want to run sequential injector firing though you need a cam signal, which is why I went with the dual sync distributor.

It comes with the MAT and coolant sensors. The knock sensor is an add-on option if you want that (which I have), as is the wide-band (regular O2 sensor included). The kit does not come with a TPS, MAP or IAC motor but the wiring harness is complete to accomodate all that, and includes relays for the fuel pump and something else (there were two relays). The unit will operate your fan(s), as well as the lock-up converter if you're running an auto. I'm sure there is alot more to tell, so ask questions. I'm not sure how well it will work with the existing gauges. I went analog as well. Here are some pics of my setup:

I don't think you'll be able to keep the cruise control either way.
Here is another source:

and check out Accel's website for info:

I've got a Gen7 on my 85 with the WB02 and learned alot along the way like the White Racing conversion harness I bought didn't work right out of the box...the Gen7 has to have each injector wired to an individual driver on the DFI not just two drivers like the factory ECU. I got a lot of good help and the OEM wiring stuff I needed from Dave at Autotrend EFI who makes custom DFI harnesses which I would highly recommend if I was doing it again.

Of course you know you will be converting to SD and ditching the MAF, I made a billet tube that mounted in the same position as the old MAF and black hard anodized it and it looks factory now. You'll need a manifold surface temp sensor mount which Dave makes and combines it with the MAP sensor bracket and it looks like a factory piece. I made some aluminum brackets and folded them at the same angle as the OEM ECI mount and put it back into the same position behind the dash as the original ECU. As far as the gauges go, unless you go with a piggyback conversion which Dave or TJ Wong can help you with, you will loose functionality of the fuel calculation based gauges like the MPG, and Average and Instant Fuel rate...if that's a big deal to you, you'll need to go piggyback..the trip odometer does work fine though as well as all of the other gauges and there is no problem with the cruise control either.

Doing a piggy back is easy, there is no need for a custom harness. Also Accel now sells their systems with a universal flying lead harness. This is a harness that is 8 feet long and is terminated at the ecm side only. You route your wires, then cut them to length and terminate them. It takes more work but it makes for a very clean installation.

The factory fuel rate display is just a calculation by the factory ECM. I don't know how accurate it was anyway especially when the owner mod the engine. If you want the display to work, it will easily by sharing a few incoming signals between the two ECMs. That is about it to keep the factory ECM alive.

I'm not really interested in keeping the stock gauges. If I'm replacing the gauge, is there any reason to do a piggy back? I love the idea of a cut to length harness. I'm obsessed with a clean look in the engine bay.
One of the main reasons I want to install a DFI setup is to control NO2. What NO2 features/options are available? I plan on running a large shot with a direct port setup. I want to run a small auxilary fuel tank for the wet side of the shot. Can I use the Gen 7 to control the auxilary pump and monitar the fuel pressure?

I am running DFI Gen VII with WBo2. No piggy back here because I wanted the same clean look as you.

Your MPG, and MPH will not work. Other than that, its fine.
