On my 86 vette the air conditioning has never been running since i have had it. It has r-134a retrofit fittings that have been put on. I charged up the air with r-134 using a charging station that tells how much you are putting in. The compressor kicked on and it felt cool until the pressure on the high side reached 430psi and kicked off due to the high pressure cut off. It kept cycling like that. I tried changing out the orfice tube with one made for that car but it didnt help. I could blow compressed air through all the lines. It did not have too much freon.
I am thinking that i need an orfice tube made for r-134a(less restrictive so the pressure does not build up so high). Has any one else converted their system to r-134?
What was the low side measuring when you were filling it? 430 is to high and low side should have had normal cycling presssure before reaching the 430. It is a possibilty the receiver/dryer is clogged up. You might try changing it.
