Well, where do I begin? I guess I can strat with I bought this 89 auto from my step-dad with low miles and a few problems like a leaking lower intake gasket and now I bought an Accel superram base, plenum and runners (on order of course), 113 heads are at the shop getting worked over with new valves and springs, full Melrose exhaust, 58mm throttle body, oh and it already had a vortech kit on it when I bought the car. Now I am looking at getting roller rockers and I do not know if I should stay with the self aligning or switch to guide plates, hardened push rods and roller lifters. If I switch to non-self aligning with the guide plates will I need to machine the heads for them or will they bolt in place of the ones from the factory which I guess were there for assembly? Do the guide plates need to be machined themselves? Also, do they make self-aligning 1.6 rockers to work with 7/16 studs? I know I will need to remove the drip tabs in the valve covers to fit the 1.6 rockers. I am also keeping the stock cam in it. When will it all end?

"While I'm in there" I should be looking for my bank account!

You can get narrow body rockers for more cost. The guide plates fit right in for the non self aligning. You would already have the roller lifters. Sounds like a fun car!

I installed the 1.6:1 ProMagnum RRs w/ 7/16" studs, hardened guides & PRs on my #113s. I had to grind down the drip tabs and narrowed the bolt towers a little too to get the VCs back on the heads.

While the heads are being worked, install hi-flow SS 2.00"/1.56" vales with a 3-5 anlge valve job and new guides. If you can swing it, pocket port the heads.

And of course a nice cam will really round out the job. Something like a ZZ-9 with TPIS springs will not be too agressive yet bring out some really nice power, with worked heads.

Think of it this way. It's a low mileage '89 so you will likely have it for maybe 5yrs or more. In which case rate the mods cost over that time period and it really isn't very much for the driving pleasure that they will bring.

I am getting the stainless valves and 3 angle done at a premium shop www.tntracingengines.com I wanted to stay away from doing the cam for right now because in 5 years or so I would like to do a 383 or something along those lines. I just want something a bit faster to show off to my step-dad and that will last a little while. What are the VC's you are talkiing about? Will I need to grind the valve cover bolt posts on any 1.6 rr because I was thinking of getting Comp Cams 1305-16 Pro Magnums with the 7/16 studs. Does any one have any exp. with these? Is there going to be any real bennefits for me for going to non-self-aligning?
