Trying to remove my mufflers, so i dont have to let some greasy shop mechanic near my car !
They are on there.
I removed the c clamp, hit it with a hammer, used a flat head screw driver and a hammer, tried the clamp further down and wacked that, heated it up with a propane torch..
I too tried to get my stock mufflers off in one piece. It wasn't going to happen. I used a sawsall to get them off. A buyer would most likely be more attracted to a more "rugged" sound. Good Luck
Can you get ahold of a 4-1/2" grinder? If so then get a couple of cut off wheels (thin ones are about .40") and use this to cut several slots in the pipe (length wise on the pipe) about 1/2" beyond where the clamps were. Then try your hammer and screw driver ( ) to get them off. You can then weld up the slots you cut and grind them down even with the pipe. When you clamp the pipe together with the "U" clamps they often crimp the pipes. Best of luck on your project.
If they have been on there too long, they may be frozen on.
However, I have removed mufflers by putting a screwdriver on the lip and lightly tapped it in trying to seperate or expand the pipes. If you can expand it about half way around, try spraying penentrating oil, likr PB Blaster in there andtwist the muffler.
It is worth a try, but again if they are frozen they may not come off.
i bought something similar to this, but mine is adjustable from 2" to 2.5" - bought it at carlisle several years ago for around $20 - mine works great...

If you are not trying to save the mufflers, cut them off. If you can't drive the short pieces off the Y-pipe you are gonna have to go see that greasy mechanic!

I could be wrong but I think the exhaust system is all One piece...
ps i want to take them off in 1 piece so if i sell the car I can put it back to stock if needed.
Mufflers are like spark plugs, they're a replacement item. If that's all that ends up coming between you and a potential buyer, purchase a new set of OEM mufflers. But as was said earlier, most buyers would be more attracted to a better grade of muffler.
