My 88 4+3 will not come out of od by pushing the button. When I put it into first gear it does automatically come out of od. When I kick it, it comes out of od and works normally and shifts back into od when I back off, as it should. Fluids are normal. Wiring looks good and plug ins are tight. Any ideas ? Thanks in advance.

Clearly the computer has control over it. So the relay works, and the connector at it works.
The shifter switch sends a signal to the ECM, not the relay. That circuit is bad. Most likely on the shifter itself. You have to pull the center console plate to get to it, it's on the side of the shifter below the leather boot.
If the switch is bad, it's cheap. I forget the source though.

When you go to take the shift **** off and the switch out, be sure to lay a cloth around the shift rod so that any tiny parts (jumpimg springs) cannot fall into the shift linkage tunnel. Otherwise, it is real hard to retrieve them. Don't ask how I know.
