I changed my diff oil last fall before hibernation. I added an 8 oz bottle of additive and filled to the overflow point.
Question is, how does one know if the diff is working correctlly or if there is enough additive? I did notice this year that when cornering or blasting flat out I do get some rear end sideways slide. It doesn't seem stable especially on power cornering. Could this be due to the diff clutches not working right?
What is the indication of incorrect diff operation? Chattering?
If when blasting flat out you leave two patches and when turning you experience no chatter then the limited-slip is working well. At least, that is my standard, there might be a better evaluation.

That is the sign of things working "right". When both rear tires spin, neither can supply directional stability and make the car track in a straight line. When the posi is working and both rear tires spin, it can drift (sideways slide) the back end out, like you are experiencing.
If the "additive" was the GM posi traction fluid, or equivalent, you added the the correct stuff. Eight ounces is enough.
