Default SMC repair, why epoxy?

Hello,
C4 body parts are made of SMC (sheet molding compount) which is polyester.
GM advises to repair it with epoxy based material.
Does anybody know why to use epoxy instead of polyester?
What happens if you don't use epoxy?

Thanks alot for your inputs!

Klaus

Polyester does not stick well to SMC and WILL separate. Thus repairs will show through soon after painting.

You will have to use SMC resin for repairs. It is available from your local NAPA as well as any paint supply store.

Thanks for your replies.
A guy from a paint shop did some repair to my passenger door, using epoxy. He seemed to know what he was going to do... hope he did it right - for the long run. Don't want to have it redone next spring...

Save the wave, Klaus
