I am getting a code 43 on my car after rebuilding the motor...no codes were there before...and i have tried lots of thing to get the code to go away...i broke the funny looking plug and just stuck an end on it and pluged it in...is this plug not being on there giving me this code maybe???
It could be the reason. This is the plug on the passangers side lower section of the block. There is or should be a shield over the sensor. Remove the sensor, and be prepared to have a large water leak. If it doesn't leak, it should (use a screwdriver to open it up). Replace the sensor quickly to prevent loosing all the fluid from this side of the block. Check water level and replace as necessary.
You'll have to check your FSM. It doesn't on my '84. I have my knock sensor perminantly disconnected due to a false knock problem. However, if it did, 43 is the code it would set. Get your connection fixed and then you can move on to the trouble shooting chart in your FSM.
water does not come out when i replaced the sensor...is that a problem
The hole is probably filled with rust. I have seen it many times. It will not affect the knock sensor though. GM stuck the sensor in a hole that was already in the block.
Coolant should have drained out, but it does not matter that it did not.
