Since I wont be able to afford the StageII ARE heads till next year, I want to install a new cam to hold me over.
I need recomendations for a good cam for an automatic. Future mods are
3.54 gears
ARE StageII heads/1.6RR/intake
I would like a cam that produces a significant gain in HP, especially when coupled with good heads. I have no problems with some chop in the idle but it must remain streetable since it is my daily driver.
Alot of members are happy with their LT4 cam kit. I believe its around a .530 lift with a 219 and 220ish duration. Computer friendly in other words. Call lunati or comp cams and see what they reccomend.
I've heard the LT4 cam really only works well with a 6speed since it allows for higher reving where most of the LT4 power is made. Would I see the same results on an auto?
Well, what intake are you using? Where do you want the power to be made? Do you want "peak" power or "overall" power. Do you want it to be in the low range, or the high range? What are you going to do with the car?
Here Scorpe I'll give you the answers that we all want. Realistic or not.
Well, what intake are you using? LT1
Where do you want the power to be made? Everywhere
Do you want "peak" power or "overall" power. I want it all.
Do you want it to be in the low range, or the high range? see 2nd answer.
What are you going to do with the car? Drive it like I stole it.
Do the rear gears for these reasons:
1. Cam swap is around 300 bucks with gaskets etc. Okay its cheaper but....you'll want the gears even more after the cam swap.
2. Cam swap is a 3 - 4 day 12 hour per day chinese fire drill.
3. Auto LT1 needs all the torque it can get. A bigger cam definitely won't help. A cam that might help will not be big enough for the larger heads in your future.
Trust me, you'll be happier with the gears.

Re: Need Cam Recomendations (IcemanZ06)
Unless you've got alot of money and free time I wouldn't do anything till you do your heads. What ever cam you choise now mostlikely won't work with the ported heads. So have a real plan before you start any mods.
I would not put the Hot cam in a auto unless it had 3:73 gears and a converter. Otherwise it will feel very flat on the low end. For a auto you should really do gears/converter first.
