Default Oxygen Sensor Replacement Interval...

My research about Oxygen sensor says:
For 1996 and newer OBDII vehciles the recommoneded replacement interval is 100k miles.

My question...
Would age play a factor also??

example, my LT4 has 20k miles on it (11 years old).
At what point should I just replace them?

Test them using an 02 sensor test tool. If they're still working, I wouldn't replace them. Simple as that.

Id prefer to replace things while im already there changing something else. If the funds are available and its on my mind, theres no harm in replacing something now. Id rather have payed for it earlier than waited had to pay more and say get stranded somewhere for trying to wait till it breaks. I know being stranded doesnt classify with the 02 Sensor though. Replace it now though if funds/time are available.

Why waste the money. If it breaks later, it's not hard to change out.

Save your money or invest it in your future . For everything that you want to replace that isn't broke, take that money and invest it in something. Seriously and save 10 to 20 % for repairs when needed.

If O2 sensor loses performance and reports a leaner mixture than actual, then gas is wasted. I donnu the probability of such, but the cost of the O2 sensor could be < than cost of wasted gas over a year or two. Donnu....

In the past, I always waited to replace until the SES light come on indicating O2 out of range. Maybe I'll just wait until gas mileage goes down the crapper or SES light again...

Never really thought about it like that. Food for thought. Thanks.

True and I agree with your thinking, but like said before that the O2 can be tested.

Default Oxygen Sensors

I have a 1996 CE LT1 coupe, my car is also 11 years old and had only done 6k miles from new, I decided to replace the complete exhaust with a Corsa along with ceramic shorty headers and all four oxygen sensors earlier in the year, changing the sensors was a bad expensive idea, I decided to install bosch sensors as I guessed the quality would be better than OEM, the four sensors cost approx $250 and had different electrical connections, I had to rewire all new sensors with the existing OEM connectors, I do not believe there has been any improvement as they either work or they don't so do not waste your money.
If you decide not to take this advice make sure that you only purchase GM parts as they fit ok and you will not have any issues with the wiring, also, you will have to remove the cats to change three of the sensors as they are difficult to get at, the fourth is in the exhaust pipe where it joins the cat.

My gas mileage was tapering off so I bought a new one to install. Not sure what else would be causing it, the O2 is about the oldest part on the car, 4 years, 30K miles.

But then again my car only uses one that costs $22 and it plugs right in.
