Are they wet, and if so, is there a gasoline smell....or is it just a dry carbon buildup? Reason I'm asking is because often times a breakdown in plug wires/cap & rotor/ or ignition module will mimic the need for a "hotter" plug...which really does nothing more than transmit heat to the cylinder head at a slower rate. In any case and to answer your question, increasing the numeric value of your plug increases the heat range, i.e. R43TS to a R44TS.
Re: My L98 needs a hotter plug/suggestions (Red85)
A few on the passenger side have been wet, but other than that its just dry carbon build up. I've been thinking of upgrading my ingnition system but haven't checked it all out yet.
AS,
Adjusting the heat range up or down should be the last thing after you've verified the PCV, EGR, secondary ignition, and fuel pressure systems are o.k. I realize this sounds silly, but are those heads original to the car....or aftermarket? GM and lots of modifiers use heads that require 3/4" reach plugs and a stock 1/2" plug will foul quickly....but CHECK THE DEPTH before switching!
Re: My L98 needs a hotter plug/suggestions (Red85)
It has stock heads. It has a new EGR valve and solenoid and the pvc seems to be ok but it isn't new. Ever since I did the mods it has a long crank on a cold start. i just figured it was due to the stock ignition.
