I have searched the tips section and the search function but I can't find the how to tip on replacing the rear ujoints in my 86 coupe. Can anyone share their knowlege about how to do this. I have the service manual, but I was wondering in particular if it was necessary to drop the rear spring in order to get the half shaft out. I seem to remember a tech tip on this but the one in the tips section is blank. Any help is appreciated.

Yes, it was scorp508 who originally posted that write-up. I used it when I replaced my half-shaft u-joints. After I buffed clean the straps and the bolts like he did, I sprayed the bolt heads and straps with high temp clear engine enamel. The clear protects the metal and sheds the dirt and debris so that they still look new, many thousands of mile later.
i would also replace the coated washer that is between the wheel bearing and the splined output shaft when you have it all apart. i got them from the chevy dealer for about $5 each. the part number is 14076924. my 86 developed a squeek at the right rear and after much heartburn, it was this washer.
