My question might be in search but couldnt find it.
2 Part question
1) Can you use Carb\Throttle body cleaner spay"Gunk" and spray it directly into throttle body to clean it like a you would a Carb while car is running??
2) I would like some forum members opinions What is the best fuel injector cleaner to dump in your tank.
Not big on Seafoam dont really trust the product for some reason
Just wasnt sure if it was safe with Fuel Injection cars as far as spraying that stuff to clean TB
Reason for doing it is I have a hard start issue " good 5-6 seconds before it starts"and that could be one of the problems TB is dirty.
I looked for leaking Injectors and didnt see any.
And did the test one forum member told me to do and see if i see smoke on start up and didnt see that either.
Just took car for sticker today and emmision test was awsome
Way under max limits on every test Hydro Carbons and so on..., everything passed with flying colors on smog testing.
I had to take mine off and clean it. It was bad, the previous owner had over saturated the K&N with filter oil. I also, changed the plugs which looked like the originals. Most of the pucks where gone. The C4 runs great now.
I would take it off to clean it. You really need to remove the IAC and just clean the end of it, and not let the cleaner go up inside of it. I do use just standard carb spray cleaner, but you can get the TB so much cleaner if you remove it. Then you can clean through the ports, back side of the butterflys, the seat where the IAC motor goes, etc.
Take the TB off... not a hard job. Also be sure to use a Carb/Throttle Body cleaner - NOT just a carb cleaner. Many throttle bodies have a coating on them and the carb cleaner will eat right through it.

This is VERY important and it is not mentioned enough in this thread.. USE ONLY THROTTLE BODY CLEANER The can from the parts store will be labeled as such.. there is a fine coating on the throttle bodies that will be removed/damaged with carb cleaner..

Are you sure about this with the LT1? I have cleaned mine several times with carb cleaner. Its cast alum. Also, the reworked 52 mm versions are simply rebored and have new butterflys made to fit. I have been told that the coating is a problem with fords but not our cars. Just wanting to know what source your information is coming from.

Also a great time to the the throttle body bypass.

I used to spin wrenches for a living.. many many moons ago.. and this was always professed by the head mechanics.. I'll dig through my FSM when I get home to see if there is any mention of it there..
Carb cleaner and throttle body cleaner cost the same.. why risk it?
Ford made a carb/throttle body cleaner that worked a lot like Dow Bathroom Cleaner (scrubbing bubbles!), that clung to the surfaces sprayed on... great stuff, but I think it's discontinued (sort of like chlorinated Brakleen).

Sounds like you could have a problem with your residual fuel pressure...If you fuel pressure is dropping very low after you turn your car off that could cause a hard start condition for sure, May want to get a fuel pressure gauge just to check. It is very easy, basicly hook it up crank the car and let it run a sec for fuel pressure to settle then cut it off and see how low it drops after 2 min or so.
That will have nothing to do with it. The fuel pressure comes up as soon as you hit the key to on, so he would have some drivability issues if it had anything to do with that.
Use what ever cleaner you like, carby cleaner is fine, there is no coating in there to destroy. If there is, mine is long gone and my throttle body is still working perfectly fine. It has also been over-bored and new butterflies years ago, and never an issue. If there ever was a coating, it hasnt effected anything not being there.
