Water pump questions
I just took the water pump off my 92 C4. I thought the gasket was leaking on the drivers side and it was, in fact the bottom bolt was very loose on both sides of the pump but it was only leaking on the drivers side.
The pump shaft doesn't seem to have any play and there is no weepage out of the weep hole. I am tempted to put it back on with new gaskets but I am going to get a new pump just to save the opti.
Here are my two questions.
1. Did anyone have luck with an aftermarket pump? Autozone has one for 120.00 with a lifetime warranty. Advance has several different makes for under 200.00
2. The coupling that comes from the engine to the pump, is supposed to have two O rings or so the picture shows and the description says to change them if the look dry or cracked. My coupling has no O rings that I can see. There was no oil behind the water pump all seemed well without the O rings. Have you ever seen this?
As always I greatly appreciate this forum and the advice I get up here.
Also, if you know a better place to get a pump please let me know.
Thanks
Randy
I have been using the Mezeire waterpumps for years. I have had to cameros a 95,97 and now I got a 92lt1 vette. Trust me they are well worth the money 200.00. You will gain hp. I noticed a small seat of the pants feel when I put mine on. The stock pump is cam driven which lugs the engine down when it is running. I promise I have not ever had any problems with them. The car will also run cooler also. Unlike the stock pump the Mezeire is pumping full blast at idle or if you are cruising or whatever. The stock pump uses a thermostate and cuts on and off, The mezerie pushes I belive 55gpm at idle or whatever. You still retain the stock pump you just knock the guts out of it and the Mezerie just bolts right up, and has a postive and neg, Gook luck and dont laugh at my typing and spelling, I'm a vette and car guy not a computer guy
