Transmission Problems
I have an 85 coupe with an auto transmission. My problem is that it shift very very early. By 15-20mph it is in 3rd gear. The end result is the engine then lugs until I press the gas to get it to kick down a gear. I'm not getting any codes. Any suggestions for where to begin troubleshooting.

Not meaning to steal the thread but: I have a 88 convertible, with the same problem. I tryed adjusting cable, No help. I did notice that when adjusted properly at full throttle, there is slack in the cable at idle. Is this normal? Also what else might cause it to shift up to soon. I am always driving around at 8 or 9 hundred RPM. Sucks!. It will down shift if you floor it. The only time the trans seems normal is when you have your foot all the way on the floor.

My 85" shifts @ 7mph from 1st to 2nd and 3rd is coming up right after that, A well kmown tranny guys told me that was normal for the 700r4 in that it is geard pretty low, I keep mine out of od unless on the freeway, and when its just cruzn, but pedal to the metal is another story it will let the motor rev and shift, I would'nt worry.
