alternator! or the wires leading to the battery...not re-charging. autozone kept saying i had hot-start issues, as i bought a new starter, battery, and alternator from them...well 1st we found the battery was a bad one, then we found the alt was bad too...now it seems to run just fine! imagine that!

Same crap happened to my '80 when it was on the road, what I found was massive corrosion on the battery cable (ground) where it attached under the car, it was corroded in the strands of the cable and the ground lug. Replaced the cable and it worked just fine. Good Luck,,, Peace, Moosie
Disconnect the battery (neg cable ), charge the battery up overnight and measure the battery voltage after it sits for an hour, charger disconnected. The next day, measure the battery voltage again, it shouldn't fall more than about 0.1 volts. Batteries are considered fully charged at 12.9 volts or higher and discharged at 12.0 volts and lower and linear in between. The battery may test good at the store but the store cannot tell if the battery has high internal leakage current in the 10 minutes they are fooling around with the battery. If your battery holds a charge overnight, then you need to find out where the excessive leakage current is in your electrical circuit. GM says leakage current should not exceed 50 milliamps. My 87 draws 27 ma. You should measure the leakage current with a test meter in series between the neg battery terminal and the disconnected neg cable. Wait for the courtesy lights to time out and then measure the leakage current. Pull the courtesy light fuse so you can keep the passenger door open and pull fuses one at a time while watching the ammeter. At night, check the underhood lights, vanity mirror lights, center console light, door map lights. Don't leave your keys in the ignition because this keeps your anti-theft circuit on. Do you have a radar detector, aftermarket alarm or radio or audio amp? Check em.

thanks, but it turned to be the relay for the primer pump for the fuel pump.
