Default 4+3 short throw shifter kit wrong? Help.

I assume that I got the wrong pieces. First the two that were sent are the same list. People in the archives mention having one longer by about a 1/4 inch. maybe that doesn't matter much. However, the verticle slot (transmission end) on mine is angled in the opposite direction of the original. I mean that when I lay the new piece on top of the old piece so that the bends are the same, the slot goes in the wrong direction. If I make the slot the same, then the bend is in the opposite direction. I hope that is understandable.

I need to know whether that was the experience that others had or were your parts just like the originals, only shorter in length.

Thanks,
Steve

This certainly sounds incorrect. It has been a few years since i put mine on, but my recollection is als othat one of them should be shorter than the other.

I believe that they now use the equal lengths -- probably cost savings. My main concern is that the retangular slot is angled in the opposite direction from the original and want to verify that is wrong before chewing on Eckler's this morning.

Some of the kits have equal lengths.

The slots should be close to the ones you're removing (and different on each link), but there's plenty of adjustment in the shift rods if they're a little off.

With this information, I spoke to MADVET and they will send another order after checking the angle. I think that it is pretty clear that the person at the machine that creates the bend in the part put the stock in upside down. I am concerned that they might have a huge order that way since both pieces in the bag were wrong. MADVET said they would check before sending.

I'll let you know whether the new ones are the same or different lengths. I suppose the advantage to different would be a slightly longer 3-4 shift but I'm not sure why that would matter.

Also curious to me, the lock washers on both bolts were broken. They look like aluminum (why aluminum I don't know) and both fell out as I loosened the nut. Any reason to try and replace with the same?

Does this help?

Also, the slots on mine were too big. They need to fit VERY snugly on the trans or they will rotate slightly and screw up your neutral alignment. I shrunk the slots by hammering them with a ballpeen hammer around the edges. Then I had to tap them onto the trans gently, didn't have any problems.

Also you'll need to fine tune the shift alignment. This can be done with two people and without tearing the center console apart if you have an idea how the linkage works.

Funny, the slots on mine were too small when I got them.

No joke, the slots on mine were just right!
Had to push them on but they fit nice and snug.

Mine looked just like Centrals.
