Default SLP Claw

I have looked at the two models of SLP cold air and why is it that on the early version i have to cut my shroud and basically turn my intake upside down whereas the "claw" for the LT1's and such is just 3 filters that doesnt seem to require cutting? is the "claw" any better than the CAI for the L98? why is it called cold air induction if the "claw" only gets air from the same place the normal intake does? could you put the "claw" on an L98? thanks

I've wonder about the cold air thing myself. As for the Claw I have and like it alot. Only difference slightly quicker throttle response, but when combined with exhaust etc. it really did help more. I think a combo of things including the slp claw really added up to something.

The SLP Claw will fit all cars with the sloped-back radiator design, which means all 1990-1996 cars. The other unit for the 85-89 cars is entirely different. I have and love the Claw intake...!

I assume you mean the SLP Claw for 1990-1996 cars. Like 94vette said the sloped-back radiator design is the big difference. There would be a hood to radiator shroud clearance problem with the 86.

I'm not really sure if one is better than the other. Call SLP to find out. But it is a mute point anyway because the Claw will not fit your car as War Machine stated. BPP makes a Vortex intake for the 85-89 cars, so that is another alternative for you.

I installed SLP's cold air induction system in my '87 a couple of weeks ago. It
required a hole about 3"x14" to be cut in front on the radiator through the plastic. They provided a thick, sticky insulator that goes around the outer edge of the hole. The new air lid is solid, unlike my open lid that sucked hot air from underneath the hood. This lid comes with a K&N filter. Molded to the bottom of this lid, is what I call the scoop or snorkle. It sticks through the hole and the scooped end faces front outside the car. It breaths in cold (ram) air. The kit also came with a heavy plastic air diverter. It attaches in front of the scoop with rivets (I substituted self tapping screws) filling the upper gap thus helping to direct air into the scoop and radiator cavity. It took about an hour to install (partially cuz I could not make out the multiple copied graphics showing how the diverter attached). Once I puzzled that out all fit together nicely. My car runs cooler and she kits
harder on WOT on the highway. You can not see the hole because the scoop sticks through it. It all looks very stock from inside the engine bay. You have to kneel down and look under the front of the car to see the scoop sticking out. :jester I recommend it.
