New Member / Remote starter prob.
well…. another new member to the forum….
after reading, learning and enjoying it a lot, I finally have to ask a question in here…
I’m in the process of installing a remote starter and keyless entry. So far everything works fine… but: it starts, runs for a while and shuts off. According to I.C.-Dymnamics it may have to do with Vats ( which I don’t believe, because then (I think) it would not crank at all ) or the wire that has to be connected to either the tach or negative side of the coil, or wrapped around any spark plug wire. ( Spark Plug Wire doesn’t work .. tried that to.. )
Now, the white (tach) wire I’ve been trying reads 12.2 volts in “run” position, 13.6 with engine running. Still shuts off…. They say either tach OR negative? Which one is the other one?
What does the remote starter expect? A raise of voltage or so? What do they mean by tach OR negative side of the coil?
I posted a picture, maybe somebody can point at the wire, or give me another hint?
Thanks in advance!
Greetings from Switzerland ( where English is not the native language )

The company that sells it should be able to walk you through the installation. Is there anything on their website?
Sorry I couldn't help.

I was trying to call .. the website gives no real help... but beeing on "wait" for 10 minutes costs me more than the remote... (overseas-call:-) so.. maybe I'm gonna use the thing as decoration...
How long does it run before it shuts off? They are designed to run for a specific amount of time and then shut off---often times----the "run" time is programmable in the "brain".
Easiest way to get the tach wire is at the brain--i don't know off the top of my head what color that wire is--but i can find out easy later on today---i will check back on this thread later and if no one else chimes in with the color----i will post it for you.
How are you getting by the vats---did you put a spare key in a box near the steering column or did you measure the res. off of yours and simulate it?
Are you doing anything when the car cuts off--(like getting in the car and touching the brake pedal?

It starts and shuts off whithin 5 seconds. From what I've read there's something that turns off the starter AND the fuel pump if the module doesn't know the engine is running :-)) I dont think it has to do with the VATS ( I disabled it with a resistor) But right now i've seen a post from a guy on another forum, saying that he had to return the Valiant System twice and finally switched to a Bulldog system.. waiting for a answer from him. I think the tach sensing stuff just doesn't really work... I'm gonna check that clifford.com stuff and maybe I'm just gonna order something else.
Living in Switzerland is great! But over here you will get more support on how to milk a cow, then how to install a remote starter :-))
The tach wire is white and can be picked up behind the instrument cluster or at the col.
Your problem sounds like a malfunction in the remote start itself. If you have the wires to actually make it start connected-i can't imagine why it would shut off in 5 seconds.
I did a complete electrical printout to install:remote start/alarm/window controls/door locks/brakes/horn---just about everything---if you need any additional wire colors---just let me know.

After all I've read, I think the system is simply not working ... I'll make a paperweight out of it and order another system. Any recommondations?
The remote act as a pager. It beep when something happen to the car, as long as the remote is in range. Doesn't work inside building...
Looks like ghall knows how to install alarm with remote start.:yesnod:
