Default Afr 195 Head Flow #'s

ALL I CAN SAY IS.......... HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I KNEW TONY'S HEADS WERE DA BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!

Flow results are in!

Jason Norris 195 Comp Port Part 1095 AFR
28” test pressure
4.040" Bore
2.08 int 1.60 exh

Valve lift Int. C.F.M. @ 28” Ex. C.F.M @28"
.100 66 53
.200 150 116
.300 211 175
.400 255 208
.500 285 219
.550 298 219
.600 305 219

So it looks like Tony is redeemed. Special thanks to Tom Hemphill of Hemphill racing engines in Clarksburg, PA who flowed these for me tonight. Super nice guy. These figures are on a Superflow SF600 bench. The intake used a 1206 radiused inlet with a little clay in the corners to match the corners on the AFR port. The exhaust numbers posted are WITHOUT a pipe and Tom told me he thought they would pick up maybe 5-7 cfm. Tom is totally independent and does not sell AFR heads. In fact he sells Brodix and Dart heads.

He also analyzed the the port velocity and thought the heads would be killer if building a street car since the velocity was very high but would max out if building a big cube high winding motor because at .600 lift, the port velocity was 375 feet per second. I explained my goals and intentions and how I was looking for streetable power and not max power at 7000 and he agreed that these heads would be perfect for that.

I know the real proof is how they run on the motor and I'm hoping to have things back together for Summer. I'm happy with my purchase and love these heads. They have all the ingredients to perform as expected for the type of motor I'm building.

As far as I know this is the only independent flow data on the forum for this head. I give it

They flow more air at .400 than my current heads flow at their peak(.600)
I have a set of 1040's on the shelf currently and plan to put them on a mild 406.

1040 is the part number for AFR's new Eliminator 195 cc runner, off the shelf head.
It is cnc ported
angle plug
65cc combustion chambers
3/8 stud
.600 lift spring
etc
Flow on these is supposed to be something like 285 cfm @550 lift. I forget the exact numbers, but they are very impressive.

Those are GREAT flow numbers, especially the .100 through .400 lift ranges. In that range, they're stronger than the hand ported AFR 190's I have.

Hard for me to make an apples to apples comparison though because mine were flowed with a 4.030 bore @ 28" on a SF600 and my valves are a tad larger. Also, mine are going on a +.060 bore block so the larger bore size will make a difference in flow since the valves will be unshrouded a bit more.

Can't take it away from AFR though, those are truly great numbers to achieve from a 195 cc head.

Could be that I may end up wishing I had waited for the release of the new LT1/4 heads. Anything on the pricing of the LT heads yet?

Congrats to Tony and AFR.

Jake

Race Ready's are about $1440, Comp versions are about $1999.

BTW: The race ready's generally flow a touch more than the advertised numbers as well...

Bill:

I hope I'm not too late on this post but I also have a set of the 195 comps. I waited over a year for these so naturally I'm VERY interested in the flow numbers. Are your heads 64 or 75 cc chambers?

My machinist hasn't been able to get good numbers on the heads because he doesn't have a radiused plate for the intake. Using clay he can't get decent flow numbers above .5" of lift. I am going to order a Brzezinski plate to finish our tests.
