I believe your supposed to drive it 500-1000 miles and change the oil first. Is it a brand new engine or rebuilt?

I'm guessing you've already changed oil at least once. But if not, do so and tune that bee-otch! I WOT my engines, although not quite to maximum RPM, on the initial drive as part of the process to seat the rings properly.

Yeah I know people who will go ahead and go WOT after rebuilding an engine and as far as I know havent had any problems yet. I've always been told to drive about 1000 miles or so and change the oil before I do any aggressive driving. Guess we'll see how well you rebuilt it

Assuming a proper performance rebuild, nothing set-up too tight, etc. he should be good to go. Now go beat on it like it owed you money!

Everyone was telling me to go easy after I put new cylinder heads on mine, but I put them on and I know I did it right so no worries. The bottom end would make me nervous after a rebuild though... probably still wouldnt stop me

Yes, just fresh heads shouldn't be a problem at all. And on the bottom end, all of the major wearing in should have already occurred within a couple of hundred miles.
