Default Solid Rear Monster hits the streets!!!

Well fellas I got to take the vette for a ride yesterday for the first time with the solid rear.

The car went arrow straight and handles great with the wishbone setup. Can't even tell the car is without the IRS, actually it feals like it might handle even better than it did before....but that could just be me since I have not driven the car for a while.....Nevertheless she feels like she is ready to do some serious battle at the strip.

Its going to be an eary feeling to stage the car and not have to worry about something breaking! CAN'T WAIT.

Need to do some minor tweaks to the ride height (too low now), but that is just a matter of unbolting the coil overs and moving them up a spot or two in their brackets......I am sick of laying on my back in the garage, so will do the rest of the tweaking at the dealership on the lifts....

That's a serious project. I wish you all the best with it!

Thanks for the replies fellas....its been a longer than normal project for me.....usually I just bull into them and have some pretty major changes done in no-time, but with the recent additions to the family this one has taken longer than normal....and only got done in small 1-2 hr intervals.....but it came out real nice...

Here are some photos I just shot....the car is not completely back together yet...had the lower rocker panels off yet and some other thing need done....also had the one shock unhooked for adjusting the ride height....going to take it out to the dealership to put the final touches on it tomorrow.

One thing for sure and I don't know if any of you are interested, but in this switch I removed the ABS from my car and ran all new lines......What a figgin difference in the way the car stops!!! Its a million times better without the ABS in the car; the brakes actually work better than before...even with my mere 8" of vac! They feel a lot better and might even try them without going to manuals...as that was my plan...since my motor pulls so little vaccum.

Anyways thanks for the comments......85vet you can sure as heck bet you will see some videos! Hopefully pullin some pretty nice wheelies without the drips and gunk falling from the rear end

Here are some photos I just took, there are other in the putfile album as well...not sure how well these will turn out....the exhaust will be closer to the punkin when the ride height is adjusted and might get rerouted as well....I just stuck it on there so I could get some miles on the car and see if everything else was ok.

There are other progress photos in the album....feel free to look around.....

85vet your NEXT!!!

12 bolt from Moser Engineering installed in my car......a 12 bolt properly built is more than strong enough for anything any of us are going to be throwing in one of these vettes....

Here is a photo of me driving my dads chevelle with a 555 CI motor and nearly 4000lbs going past the 60' mark......we still have the STOCK 12 bolt in that car with ZERO issues and it pulls 1.33 60' times at nearly 2 tons!!!....You should have a better appreciation of what a 12 bolt can take now!

You have finally evicted Schleprock from living in your car!
Looks good man.

I guess the u-joints are now the "weakest links" of the drivetrain now?

Thanks fellas for the comments.....went out to the dealership today and got it all set at the right ride height and it looks MUCH better now...took it for about a 8 mile ride and the thing is SOLID as a rock.....just need to fab up a driveshaft loop and finish a brace in the rear and it should be ready for the strip......

One thing though.....I HAVE NO SLICKS OR WHEELS now!! Sold them to a forum member today that came down from Canada this morning...so i have to get myself some measurements and see what will fit under the car.

Way cool Jesse: Does it have brackets welded out near the ends of the axle tubes with the wishbone coming off the top of the brackets and small tubes with heim ends coming from the bottom of the bracket to the original place where the dog bones connected? And I guess there is a tube welded to the frame where the wishbone connects to. NICE SETUP MAN ya better get wheelie bars for that thing or it will be over on it's lid Pipe
