I have a 93, last week it started missing on me when on the gas but would idle fine. Took the car home checked codes it had none I let the car sit for a hour or so took it for a ride and the car ran fine and has not had a problem sense. I dont think the opti has been replaced, the car has 100000 on it. Next question is it worth the money for the MSD opti or stay with AC delco. thanks.

Probably not the opti.
My 92 is acting simarlly at times, seems to be heat related.
I asked the question a few days ago, copl be MAP sensor, ICM, or Coil.
Last year mine was coughing and sputtering, died on the way home from work. A buddy of mine suggested replacing the coil first. I replaced it and the car ran fine until it developed a low rpm miss when the waterpump went.
Still have the sputtering when heat soaked, I'm going to order a new MAP sensor.
Similar problems just started on my 92. It started out with the engine shutting off for a couple of milliseconds driving thru a parking lot. It did this twice in the lower gears in the next couple of days. No Codes. I took it out the next day starting with a cold motor, got the temps to 160w & 140 oil, it reved to 5k in the first 3 gears, no problem. Drove it until the temps were up, 210 oil, let it sit for 20 minutes to heat soak. I went back out and at 4k in 2ond and 3rd the motor would totally shut off. Still idled fine and no codes. Checked fuel pressure - 40lb.
This gave me an excuse to install all the parts that have been laying on the workbench for the last 2 months, new fuel filter, plugs, wires, coil.
Ran it again with a fuel pressure gauge duct taped to the wind shield and got 41psi at 4k when it shut off again so, not a fuel problem. No Codes.
I'm betting that it's the ICM. When I changed the coil, I noticed that the back of the ICM had white, powdery crap on it. It's supposed to have a layer of grease on the back to improve the contact with the heatsink for cooling.
The new ICM's backordered at CC, supposed to ship 5/27. Hope this is it. It's a pain when no codes are thrown and the FSM doesn't have a good procedure for testing the ICM.
