Hi, I am looking at a '92 with 90K miles. The calipers have some play in them and you can jiggle them back and forth slightly but noticeably. Current owner replaced the pins (not sure of their function) but didn't seem to help. What could be the problem/fix? I'm assuming it IS a problem. Thanks, Larry
The tension spring clips might be missing. They springs snap on to the pads and take up the rotational slop and keep things tight. With out the springs the calipers will clunk when the brake is applied.
Replacing the pins will not make a difference. The pads might have been changed at some time and the springs possibly not installed. Some pads come with no springs and they have to be transferred. Some pads come with springs.
The calipers do actually float and have some small movement when assembled correctly.
