Default Heater core....

You think its hard doing it on your left hand drive Corvettes?? Try doing it on a right hand drive!!! Its so bloody **** easy its just not funny. Around about 1 hr and 15 minutes spent so far in total, and i stopped for a beer after i got the dash out. I took some pics for ya all to see.

These couple pics you can sort of see just how easy it was to get to.

Looks like you still had to tear through alot of stuff to get to that.

No i didnt, 4 screws hold the duct in place, 3 screws holding the core, two bolts held the wiring in place, and the dash came out just before that, so how much stuff do you think could have come out when everything is still there apart from the dash and the passenger seat??

Well if you had the dash out prior like you said then I see where you are coming from. The dash wouldn't need to be removed anyhow for this job but since you had it out possibly for some other reason then yeah not much left to do then.

No i took the dash out first thing, i only started and was only going to do that and leave the rest til morning, but since the dash came out in under 40 minutes, i thought i might as well keep going. On an early model it may not need to come out, but it will on a later model. The centre console is all still there, only the top pad is off and a few trim pieces.

Here is a couple pics when its all in one piece:

Glad it was an easy job for you, kind of in a very small way makes up for the higher prices you have to pay for parts.

I pay probably less for parts then most people over there, its only the car that costs alot!! I get my parts from a good mate over there and he has a workshop. The cost of the car is so high cause the conversion to right hand drive is bloody $24,500 on these later C4s now, and needs to be done if you want to use it on the road (illegal otherwize). They are also hit with tax cause they are not a commercial vehicle, if its a Chevy Silverado you can get around most of that, but not with a Corvette.

But certainly seems to me as though it was very very easy to get to it, everyone keeps saying how hard it is to do. Ive never seen any pics of any left hand drive C4s with the heater core ready to come out.

Gday Mike, havent done any weather strips yet mate, one side looks good but the left side is abit tired!!

You could post me the car mate yes, ill do it for ya, but shiping and insurance for the journey will be around $5,000, so id say youd be better off just sending me a plane ticket and ill come over to the car!!

Does the company that handles the conversion give you any kind of additional service manual to cover the changes? Obviously, in certain situations the standard FSM isn't going to do you much good...

No mate, its not really required though, most of the parts are the same really, most HVAC parts are just modified or turned upside down to go on the other side, and the rest of it is just moved and secured in place. I dont know alot of C4 owners in Australia that pull their Corvettes apart either, most of them seem to take it to someone to get the work done cause they seem to think its a "special different magical" car (if you know what i mean)

is the heater still on the right side? Or do they move it, too?

I can't tell exactly from the pictures.... but the conversion sure looks like it makes the job easier!

Good for you! Now, when are you coming to LA and doing mine?

ooh!!! you are actually hoping to get over here?!? That would be the cool!

I will more than likely have it done before much longer... I want to pull the interior on my 92 and get it all cleaned and renewed. redo the stereo, etc... I have new carpets, too.
