Default Update on new Injectors

A few were following my never-ending saga of changing my injectors in my 91. This is my follow up post.

First, background:

First post looking for injector options:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ight=injectors

Injector thread where I posted my incredibly ugly and questionable injectors:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...1701576&page=3

Quick recap:
I bought a set of 8 "new" injectors from Marren Injection (www.injector.com) and got 8 injectors that looked like this:

I was obviously suspect about these injectors, so I wrote to Tim Marren, who had been very helpful on the phone when I was buying. His prompt response:
Hello Jim,
The injectors we sent are brand new, never been on an engine, injectors.
All Bosch injectors have overspray on them, some are better than others.
As far as the numbers being taken off, we do that because we put our own
part number on them. We know what the injectors flow at a certain
pressure because we test them in our lab.
If for any reason you are not happy, return the injectors and we will
give you a refund on them.
We do not sell used injectors and we certainly would never send a
customer something used, passed off as new.
Thank you
Tim Marren
Marren Fuel Injection
That put me at ease for a while but I still wondered if I was getting a raw deal.

A few days later, I found this at another site. As you can see, they've got the same crappy overspray:

Unless more than one site is pulling the exact same scam, it put me at ease that I was indeed getting brand new injectors, especially after some fellow thirdgenners also chimed in that their aftermarket Bosch injectors also had some pretty ugly overspray.

In any event, I was sick of injector shopping, so I went ahead and put the car back together after dealing with a week of TPI gasket issues thanks to an incompetent Advance Auto nearby.

I'm happy to report that so far, so good. All injectors ohmed out at 16.1 or 16.2 ohms. Last night when I hooked up a fuel pressure gauge, much to my amazement, I still had fuel pressure in my rails. I hadn't pressurized the system in almost a week. I drove the car briefly last night and drove it to work today, and I'm happy to say that it's running beautifully. The Bosch inectors are considerably louder than the Multecs, but since I'm running SVO (Bosch) injectors on my IROC, I'm completely used to it. I haven't hooked up my scan tool yet to check my BLMs, but if I'm any amount rich or lean, it's not by much, and can be easily compensated for with my AFPR.

All in all, as long as you can live with the ugly injectors and the louder clicking, I'm happy to recommend Marren Injectors to anybody. I paid $240, which is $60 cheaper than I could find the same injectors for anywhere else, and about half the price of most 22lb injectors I found.

Jim, Nice follow-up post. I have been following your thread with interest. I just can't figure out why they don't have a clean process paint these things.... very strange...

Strikes me as very odd too, especially considering that the injectors they make for OEMs are not like that at all. All I can figure is that they take off the shelf SVO injectors, but have to paint them so that they aren't stepping on any toes selling the same thing that they're selling under contract to Ford.

Hi. I have an 85 4+3. with Bosch Injectors.
I really agree with your suspicion about these injectors being overhauled or repaired ones. They will of course work allright.
I work at Siemens and have much connection To Bosch and I must just say that I have never ever seen such bad looking products from either of the two companies. It would not have come through the quality control. Especially suspicious I was when seeing that there is an obvious amateurish erase of a number on the yellow plastic It is done by hand and no high volume producer have time to that. I have seen original Bosch injectors from the factory and they absolutely do not look as these ones.
In my opinion it must be returned injectors that have been repaired and tested and found they perform like new. Were there any warranty on them?
A friend of mine got his injectors tested and some parts were changed and they now perform as new with the same 24lbs /hour as the original ones.
The injectors for the 85 is discontinued by Bosch now.

The paint overspray seems normal but the mangaling /melted off of the original numbers is weird.

Tim Marren in his reply clearly stated that they do this at their location and re-mark them with their own part number. I was never under the impression that they came from Bosch that way.
